Just noticed that BBC is offering its news in Tamil (and many more languages including Nepali, Hindi also). I’m very much impressed by their translation. If you can understand Tamil, visit BBC Tamil page, and click on the orange popup that reads "Thamizh ezhuthuru pera", which means "Tamil Fonts Download".
If you want to install the font on GNU/Linux, just follow the steps below:
- Make a directory say, for example,
/usr/X11R6/share/fonts/tamil. - Copy the tamil font under this directory.
- Run
mkfontdirin the same directory. - Now you must edit your X configuration (
/etc/X11/xorg.confor/etc/X11/XF86Configdepending upon whether you have Xorg or X11 installed), and append the following line in the “Files” Section:
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/share/fonts/tamil/" - Restart X server for settings to take effect.
You can visit the BBC Tamil web page to read the news ![]()
This is amazing. Keep up the good work, guys! :-)
